Learn more about our Founder, Carol
Carol Park is an LPC-S and CEDRD working in private practice in Richardson, TX. She has worked primarily with Eating Disorder clients for all 30+ years of her career. She’s also our fearless founder.
We thought it would be fun to do a little Q&A session with her so you can get to know her a little better apart from her bio and all those letters after her name. :)
Let’s start off with an easy one. What’s your favorite vacation spot?
Favorite vacation spot is anywhere I go with family. It doesn’t matter where I am, as long as I’m with those I love. If I had to choose though, I would be somewhere on a beach:)
Beach sounds lovely right now. Okay, how about your favorite TV show or book?
My current favorite show is Ted Lasso and my favorite book is “Women Who Run with the Wolves”.
Lasso is a solid pick. Not sure about the women and wolves but I’ll check it out. ;) Now, what about your favorite self-care activity?
Favorite self care activity is, hands down, tending to the flowers and plants that I grow in my yard. I especially enjoy planting bulbs, tulips are my favorite, and watching them sprout and then bloom.
Last “favorite” question here. Favorite food?
My favorite food is Tex-Mex.
Mmmm. Okay, we’ll move on now and learn a little bit more about your choice to specialize and work pretty much exclusively with Eating Disorders early in your illustrious 30 year career.
Well, in a round about way, my own recovery process led me to this profession. I majored in nutrition in the early 80’s because I was struggling with an eating disorder and didn’t really know it because they weren’t talked about back then. When I was working on my Master’s in Nutrition, I began to understand the issue and started my journey to recovery. After working as a dietitian for many years in the field of eating disorders, I went back to school to get a Master’s in Counseling and have continued to specialize in Eating Disorders. I am passionate about the hope and healing that comes from the recovery process.
Amazing. We are to the final question here. Why’d you create ThrivED Together?
ThrivED Together was born out of my practice and seeing individuals struggle with the eating aspect and needing help with the behaviors in the space between outpatient care and a treatment center. I also believe that we heal with people and so the community aspect is super important to me.
